1st XI celebrations

The St Peter's College Soccer Tournament is held annually in an identical format to the World Cup (32 teams in 8 groups). This year St David's Marist Inanda managed to go all the way to lift the trophy. After finishing 2nd in group H by means of goal difference to Jeppe, St David's beat Kliptown Academy on penalties in the round of 16 after a 0-0 draw in normal time. In the quarter finals St David's were drawn against the 2013 national champions Clapham High School and managed to triumph 2-1. The semi-final against Prestige College was a cagey affair and another 0-0 draw and another penalty shoot-out win meant a final against Jeppe High School for Boys. Over the season the teams had already met 3 times, with 1 win each and an exciting draw in the group game of this tournament. The final unfortunately didn't yield any goals so another penalty shootout ensued. Both teams had endured 2 penalty shoot-out wins on their way to the final but it was the St David's players who held their nerve to clinch it 3-2. Key to the St David's team's success was the solid defense in the knockout games: only conceding 1 goal, in the last minute of a game where the result was already secured.
